How to Wash Your Hair and Scalp With Extensions In

Clean hair and a clean scalp make an install look better and feel better. The goal is not to wash as often as possible. The goal is to wash gently, rinse well and dry completely.

Here is the routine I walk every client through after her Illusion Knot install.

How often to wash

Most clients do well washing every 7 to 10 days. If you work out often or use a lot of product, you may want to wash a little more often. Your aftercare guide gives you the schedule that fits your install.

The wash itself

Detangle gently with your fingers or a wide tooth comb before the hair gets wet, starting at the ends. Wash with the hair hanging down, the way it grows, and avoid piling it on top of your head.

Work a gentle shampoo into the scalp with the pads of your fingers, then let the suds run down the lengths. Do not scrub the knots. Follow with conditioner on the lengths and ends, and rinse until the water runs clear. Product left behind is what makes hair feel heavy.

Drying completely

This is the step most people rush. Blot with a microfiber towel, then dry the roots completely on low or medium heat. Hair left damp at the root for hours is more likely to tangle and matte.

If you are short on time, it is better to wait for a wash day when you can dry properly than to go to bed with damp roots.

Your complimentary refresh

Every install includes one complimentary refresh: shampoo, condition and silk press. After that, book an Illusion Knot Maintenance Refresh for $260.

The Maintenance Refresh is 1 hour 45 minutes. It is a good time to check your install, wash and press it, and talk through anything you have noticed at home.
